Hi!

I don't know who you are, but my server logs say you still come here sometimes. Thanks! I wrote whatthemetro one afternoon when I was home sick from work, on the same day that Apple announced the second version of the iPhone in June of 2008. Very few people at the time had smartphones, but I could tell that it was going to be a Thing. The University of Washington had been maintaining a vehicle arrival API for King County Metro for several years, but it had never really taken off as a tool for mass usage. I thought that the iPhone (and, later, Android phones) was the right medium; that the time had come when people never had to be lost again. So I made this thing, and showed it around to friends and family.

I wasn't the only one. Around the same time, Brian Ferris at the University of Washington released OneBusAway which became in time far more complete and reliable than I could have ever made whatthemetro.

I never took down whatthemetro - I just let it go to the weeds. The time has come, though. Thanks for visiting!

tl;dr: whatthemetro is cancelled. Go to OneBusAway.
